CSR FM, run by students from Canterbury Christ Church University and The University of Kent’, will launch a second studio. Studio Blue, is a state-of-the-art radio studio at Canterbury Christ Church University’s North Holmes Road Campus and compliments the original studio based at the University of Kent.
The community station, which broadcasts on 97.4 FM across the whole of Canterbury, will unveil the new studio at an event on Friday 20 January from 6pm. The event will be attended by members of the radio station’s board, as well as the student volunteer team who help make the station a reality.
The station recently secured a new five-year Ofcom Licence to broadcast until 2017 on 97.4FM and remains one of the only student-led stations to hold the permanent licence. The first shows will be broadcast from the studio on Monday (23 January 2012).
Station Manager Ryan Bartrop, a student at Canterbury Christ Church University, said: “I am really pleased to be the Station Manager of CSR when we launch our new studio on the Christ Church campus. I am particularly pleased being a Christ Church student – as this new studio creates ample opportunities for innovative speech programming and increased involvement from students and community members. Credit to our tech team for working tirelessly over the summer to make sure this all happened.”
The event will celebrate the official opening of the studio and follow with CSR ‘taking over’ Christ Church’s Student’s Union from 8pm with a number of DJ sets and live band performances to celebrate the student’s achievements.
The new studio has already attracted BBC Radio 4 producer, Colin Anderson, who will visit Studio Blue to undertake a workshop with students later this month.
This workshop coincides with a visit from ‘The Pappy’s’, a team of Canterbury alumni who produce ‘Bangers and Mash’, an award winning comedy podcast. Recording and editing of a podcast episode will take place in Studio Blue for current students to observe the production process first hand.
