The SRA has been asked to help collate a list of student radio stations who might be interested in joining the Radioplayer project.
It has been designed so there are minimal barriers to be included on it - but there is a vision to give users a high-quality, consistent experience (a software radio that 'just works'). So there are a few stipulations....
- At launch, this will be for Ofcom-licensed services only. This is to ensure taste and decency standards are upheld.
- All streams must play in Flash (rather than AAC or streaming MP3 as their preferred formats).
- There will be a minimal amount of textual meta data which stations will need to produce and store on their servers.
- And there will be a small annual charge related to size - probably around £200 for the smallest stations.
If you think your station can comply with all of the above points and be involved with this project, then please submit your interest to the SRA Chair.
(PLEASE NOTE: contacting the SRA only registers your interest in the project and does not necessarily guarantee your participation. Also, if you do not contact the SRA this does not mean exclusion from the UK Radio Project. This request for information is only an initial gauge for how many of our members would be actively involved in the project. More information about the project and signing up to the web player will be announced at a later date.)
