Voice of the Awards Competition!: Full Story

Each year at the conference a new voice is chosen to record the announcements for the star-studded Student Radio Awards later that year. It's been very successful over the past three years with over a hundred and fifty auditions at each conference.

Last year's winners, Kyle Wilkinson and Jade Hutchinson, who were picked out by Radio 1's Ben Newby and Wise Buddah's John Lawley, both won the opportunity to record their very own voice over demos at Wise Buddah and record the announcements for the SRA Awards ceremony which was held at the IndigO2. I'm sure that everyone who attended the event will agree that it was a huge success.

It's a great competition to audition in, even if you don't win. David Cameron Walker, one of the runners up last year, can currently be heard as Radio 1's male station voice!

How to audition!

Auditions will be held at the National Student Radio Conference in Nottingham on 29th - 31st March. Studios will be available all day Monday 29th and the morning of Tuesday 30th March for you to record your own audition with the sound bed. Listen out for announcements at the conference.

You can also download the sound bed HERE:

Download mp3 (VOA Theme)

and email your audition to Tim (chair (AT) student radio . org .uk) in advance of the conference.

The line you need to record is:

'Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to the BBC Radio 1 Student Radio Awards 2010 supported by PPL..'

You will need to begin recording this line at 00.30 in the audio.

The top ten auditions will be asked back for the second live audition during the Tuesday afternoon when you'll get the chance to impress our judging panel of top professionals and win the coveted opportunity to be the Voice of the Student Radio Awards 2010.

The winners will also get to record their very own choice voice over demo at the Wise Buddah Studios in London, complete with expert tuition and direction.

Find out more about Wise Buddah on their website.
