The Student Radio Association has been forced to remove Safia Dar, Events Officer, from her position.
On Friday 13th August 2010, the Student Radio Association filed a second Compulsory Motion of Censure against Safia Dar which resulted in the enforcement of her removal from the Student Radio Association Executive as per article 10.15 of the Student Radio Association Articles of Association.
Ms Dar was unable to fulfil her responsibilities to the SRA and the membership in her elected position of Events Officer, and, as a result, under article 10.15 of the Student Radio Association Articles of Association, Ms Dar has been dismissed from her position with immediate effect.
Chair, David Cameron Walker, says: "It is not in the interest of the Student Radio Association, or its members, to actively remove executive officers from their position. It is not something we do lightly or without careful consideration. On this occasion, the inaction of one officer had already begun to have a significant detrimental effect on the relationships we have successfully built between student radio and the organisations who offer us such fantastic opportunities and wide-ranging support. The SRA and student radio has made significant advances over the last two years, and the rest of the SRA team simply cannot afford to maintain those standards if they continue carrying one member of the executive who is not fulfilling their repsonsibilities, particularly in such a key role as Events Officer. Whilst it is regrettable that we have had to force the removal of Ms Dar, it is a necessary act in order to continue protecting the relationships we have built and the reputation of student radio as a whole."
The Student Radio Association Executive has the power to co-opt an interim Events Officer to fill the position until the next AGM, and are pleased to announce that Laurence Moreton, Pure FM, has agreed to step into the position. We are confident that he can help the SRA successfully deliver the programme of events we have planned for this year.
