RaW 1251am: RaW Wins 3 Golds at Student Radio Awards: Full Story
Tash Collie won Best Scripted Programming for radio soap Slow Hands while Julie Ann Lough was awarded Best Female and last year’s show The Big Chewsie came away with Best Entertainment and the prestigious Kevin Greening Award. RaW’s Tom Goble won the silver award for Best Interview and Julie Ann Lough was also awarded silver for Best Newcomer. More than 20 RaW members went to the awards ceremony presented by BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills and Fearne Cotton. RaW’s former station manager and gold-winner Ben Anderson said, ‘broadcasting from a temporary location has been less than ideal, so to come away with four golds and two silvers is something to be very proud of.’ RaW’s Das Shah who attended the event last night added, ‘I'm really proud to have been a member of RaW and think that even those who didn't win last night were incredible last year - fingers crossed for next year!’ Organised by the Student Radio Association and supported by BBC Radio 1 and the music licensing company PPL, the Student Radio Awards is now in its 14th year. The panel of judges for 2009 included Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Matt Fisher, as well as Nottingham graduate and Best Male in 2000, Steve Harris. Despite the increase of competition due to this year’s notably raised standard across all categories, RaW has not done so well since 2003. SU President, Andrew Bradley, also expressed pride in RaW wishing, ‘many, many congratulations to all involved.’
