NEWS & INFO STATIONS MUSIC EVENTS SUPPORT FORUMS

IanD

As SRA Development Officer, my role is to provide advice and support for new and existing member stations on a wide range of issues. These include licensing, training and funding amongst others. I also maintain the SRA Wiki, a useful knowledgebase created by those in student radio for their peers, and the SRA discussion boards, a lively online community for discussing all things radio related.

Every one of the 80 + student radio stations in the UK operates in a different way. This diversity gives us a great opportunity to learn from each other, sharing ideas which will benefit the UK student radio community as a whole. This year will provide a great opportunity to look to the future, and against the rapidly developing background of new broadcasting technology we need to start thinking about the best way to secure the long-term sustainability of Student Radio in the UK.

If anyone has any questions on anything support related, please feel free to get in touch.

All the best,
Ian

[Matt Hurst] December 17, 2007 05:37 PM New Guidance Regarding Participation of Under 18s

From an Ofcom news release:

"Ofcom has today published new guidance for broadcasters on the participation of young people in programmes, reflecting its belief that consideration of their welfare should be at the heart of editorial and production decisions.

The guidance follows research by Ofcom and supports the existing Broadcasting Code rules in this area. It sets out recommendations for broadcasters to assist them in complying with the Code rules on under eighteens."

This will apply to any of our stations which include participaion by those under 18, and as such I would advise all affected to read the new guidance notes located here:
