Luke Franks and Ed Griffiths, nominated for Best Entertainment Programming at the Student Radio Awards 2010, are running a campaign as part of Channel 4’s Emmy award winning Battlefront project – find out how you can get involved and support them.
Luke and Ed, Xpress Radio, are a pair of 12 young people campaigning to make a change in a variety of issues – their campaign is called the Smile High Club, and is an attempt to get Britain smiling more.
They started their campaign in June 2010 and have been making videos and attending events to gain support and get people smiling. So far they have been along to the Ben and Jerry’s Festival, Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball and met Jason Derulo, McFly, Scott Mills, Alexandra Burke and more.
The real focus for the campaign is now to take on Blue Monday, 17th January 2011. It is known as the most depressing day of the year, and the lads aim to turn it on it’s head to become the smiliest day of the year. They have got the backing of one of the creators of Blue Monday, who every year secure a large amount of coverage in national newspapers, on TV and radio. He is prepared to allow the guys to ‘hijack’ the day and change its meaning.
The plan is to create a ‘Happy Hour’ from 12.00 – 13.00 on Blue Monday. The guys are currently approaching national companies, coffee chains, supermarkets, public transport, etc. to get them involved through discount promotions or simply announcements on the Tube to wish passengers a happier Blue Monday.
How you can get involved!
To make the Blue Monday Happy Hour a success, Luke and Ed need all the support they can get – all you need to do is get onto Facebook and ‘like’ their online page.
All details and online videos can be found on the Battlefront website.
