Blast Radio, the University of West London student radio station will be broadcasting its mixture of music and topical news to a wider audience as its frequency switches to FM from April.
Blast Radio will now be transmitting to thousands of listeners within a five mile radius from 30 April to 25 May 2012.
To celebrate the launch, the radio station will be holding exclusive competitions online and on the air, with the prizes donated by local businesses in the Ealing community. Listeners will also be able to listen to Blast Radio via the website when the station goes FM.
Blast Radio was founded in 2007 and it’s operated by third year media students who study a variety of courses including advertising, public relations, event management and broadcast journalism.
The station caters for the diverse population of the University and broadcasts from the legendary Ealing Studios in West London.
Blast Radio allows media students to gain direct experience and put the knowledge they have gained over the course of their studies into practice.
Third year public relations student, Kelly Ward believes that the radio station will showcase the talent of students to a wider audience, she said:
‘Blast Radio focuses primarily on being a voice for all the students at the University. During the time we are FM it will be a great opportunity for young aspiring students to get involved with the station through a variety of shows we have on offer to show off their talents to a much wider audience.’
