Forge Radio

This week Sheffield’s Forge Radio will visualise the Student Radio Chart Show for the first time in its history.

On Sunday 11th March, listeners will be able to tune in as normal from 3pm to hear the top ten unsigned tracks supported by Emerging Icons.

But, at 4pm the cameras will switch on at ForgeRadio.com to count down of the biggest 10 tracks from student nights out across the country, supported by Flirt!

The idea to make the show audio-visual came from Forge Radio’s Head of Music Danni Hunt, who will be co-presenting the chart on Sunday with fellow Forge presenter Oli Sly.

Danni said “The best thing about student radio for me is the freedom for every single person involved has to take an idea, run with it and see what happens as a result.

I knew I had to make this particular idea happen and thanks to the help of our Forge TV counterparts the Student Radio Chart will be watchable to the world for the very first time on Sunday.

It’s hard to ignore the growing role of visual radio and so it makes sense to bring it into student radio through its only nationally syndicated show.

On the show this week Danni and Oli will have Sheffield’s finest “The Crookes” performing live, a chat with Nottingham’s “Dog Is Dead” and you have the chance to win a pair of tickets to Jakwob’s forthcoming tour.

Co-host Oli said: “If that’s not enough reasons to listen, my Grandad is making a special appearance for a previously exclusive to Forge Radio feature.”

The National Student Radio Chart is broadcast across a network of Student Radio Stations each Sunday from 3pm. Each week a different Student Radio Association member station hosts the chart meaning that everyone gets the opportunity to host the national chart show.

Currently the show is split up into two parts. The first half, 3-4pm counts down the top 10 Unsigned acts supported by Emerging Icons. The second half, 4-5pm sees the hosts countdown the hits top 10, put together by, and supported by Flirt! – The UK’s Biggest Official Student Night.
