Royal Holloway University in Surrey has recently been celebrating their student radio station Insanity Radio becoming a community radio station on 103.2FM. As part of these celebrations, the presenting team from the Insanity Weekend Warm-up show will be embarking on a quest to beat the world record of ‘Longest Marathon For A Radio Music Show DJ – Team’.
Chris Smith, Georgia Fish, Jack Gordon and Alice Hopkins, who usually present 8-10pm every Friday, will be trying to beat the current record of 72 hours held by SineFM in Doncaster. They will be attempting to beat this by doing 100 hours from 8am on Monday 26th March until 12pm Friday 30th March!
This record breaking extravaganza of a show will see Chris, Georgia and Jack presenting in the studio non-stop for 4 days and 4 hours and Alice guest presenting over the internet from South Africa. There will be a host of guest presenters including presenters from other shows and even outside of the station itself! The hours will be jam packed with classic radio and TV games, awesome music and themed hours such as the science hour and the midnight surgery that will aim to tackle issues affecting young people.
Georgia told the SRA, “Not only is this a great opportunity to get more publicity for our wonderful community station after its new re-launch onto FM, but we are taking this chance to raise money for charity too!”
Alice and Georgia will be traveling to Africa in August: Alice to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with the WorldVision charity and Georgia to help out the local community in St Lucia (South Africa) by teaching in an orphanage, building houses and toilet blocks, and conserving the wildlife.
All money raised from the event will be going towards their trips to Africa and the wonderful people in the communities that they will be sponsoring.
