Yasser Ranjha, formerly of Leeds Met University is one of three new presenters to join the BBC Asian Network.
From everyone at the Student Radio Association, we’d like to say a massive congratulations to Yasser Ranjha, who is one of three new presenters of the BBC Asian Network, taking over as the champion of new specialist music from Bobby Friction. Yasser has won three Student Radio Awards, including silvers for ‘Best Male’ and ‘Best Specialist Music’. Here’s how he got to where he is today… (it required a lot of hard work!)
Yasser started volunteering at his local community station, Fever FM whilst simultaneously working on his degree in Leeds. He was quickly moved to the breakfast show, which is when Asian Sound Radio hired him to present their chart programme. Yasser is alumni of LSR, where he hosted two shows, ‘The Lazy Eskimo Show’ and the specialist music show, ‘Asian Beats’.
Yasser has been quoted to say:
“I’m proud to be joining the Asian Network and honoured to be taking over from Bobby Friction. I have been a dedicated listener since the show first began and I’m super keen to be championing new British-Asian talent.”
Yasser has told us: ” Joining the BBC is a dream come true! I never would have thought my small specialist music show on LSR.fm would one day be broadcasted on a national BBC station. Im really excited to get started.”
To keep up with Yasser, follow him on @helloyasser. We hope for more student success stories to follow!
