We are pleased to announce the locations, hosts and speakers for this year’s regional training days and nominations parties for the Student Radio Awards 2012…
On Wednesday October the 10th, members of the SRA will be coming together in seven locations around the country to find out who has been shortlisted for the Student Radio Awards categories. As a celebration of student radio, the SRA are also hosting regional training days for all those involved, and we have a fantastic line up of speakers arranged from the radio industry who work at the BBC, Capital, Bauer and more. All nominations parties are due to start at 7pm so that the nominations can be revealed simultaneously at all seven events later in the night. Here are the details of the day!
Hosted by Gary Spence from Capital Scotland, the nominations party will be held at Club 520 in Glasgow. The link to the Facebook event can be found here. North West and North Wales
Manchester will play host to this region’s training day and nominations party. The training day is to be held at Capital FM Manchester’s studios from 10-5pm and confirmed speakers are:
– Capital Manchester’s Breakfast Team
– Sam Walker (Director of What Goes On Media)
– Darryl Morris (Bauer & BBC Presenter)
– Andrea Day (INRIX Traffic Links)
North East and Yorkshire
Hosted by Rob Howard (Capital FM North East drive time presenter & SRA Award winner), the nominations party will be held at Opera Bar in Newcastle, with the earlier training day (12-6pm) being held at Newcastle’s Students’ Union. The current line up for the training day is:
– Giles Tanner (Capital North East’s programme controller)
– Keven Green (Capital North East’s marketing executive)
This year, the Midlands nominatons party and training day will be held in Nottingham. The evening will be hosted by Dino and Pete, who host Capital East Midland’s Breakfast Show, and will be located in Spanky Van Dykes. The day’s event will be located at Nottingham Trent University from 12-6pm and features:
– Dick Stone (programme director of Capital East Midlands)
– James ‘Lloydie’ Lloyd (freelance presenter)
– Mark Dennison (BBC Nottingham presenter)
– Lewis Vickers (BBC Nottingham assistant producer)
South West and South Wales
Cardiff is the location, and Gwdihw is the venue for the nomination’s party, which is to be hosted by Kam&Sally and Tim John from Capital Breakfast. The day’s training events will be held at the University of Glamorgan from 2-5:30pm, with the line up as follows:
– Beth Roberts (CULT Cymru Project coordinator, BECTU)
– Marie Irshad (BBC Radio Wales)

Southampton is this year’s location for the nominations party, with Orange Rooms being the venue of choice. London and East Anglia
We can confirm that Capital FM’s Rich Clarke will announce the shortlist for this year’s Student Radio Awards for those of you located in this region. The venue for the nominations party and training day will be in Central London, and again we are working hard to bring you all the updated information as quick as we can. Please note, you do not have to attend both events on the 10th of October. You are welcome to attend either, or both. At the nominations parties, student radio alumni and supporters of student radio are welcome to attend, as well as students who have submitted award entries. We look forward to seeing you there!
