We’ve received this fab information from Communicorp UK, who are inviting SRA members in to their stations to do some shadowing!

“Are you looking for opportunities to spend time with some of the UK’s biggest and most loved radio brands? Then Communicorp UK might have just the thing you are looking for…

The radio group, which is home to the likes of Heart, Smooth, Capital and Real XS, has developed a new initiative, Communicorp UK: The Next Generation, to further support the industry’s rising talent.

We are working alongside the group to offer all you SRA members the chance to gain hands on experience at any of their eight stations to help develop your radio skills.

The Next Generation project provides you with the opportunity to spend the day at a station and sit in on a breakfast or drive time show, spend a few hours with the programmer planning the next show, meet with the station director to find out more about the group and how to run you are keen to focus on, just let the guys at Communicorp UK know!

And here’s what some of the students who have participated so far, have had to say about their time with Communicorp UK!

‘My day at Capital South Wales couldn’t have been better. The team were very inviting and I was able to help with some show ideas and see how it is all put together. The Communicorp UK and SRA initiative is exactly what the industry has been missing; a viable and welcoming chance to bridge student and commercial radio allowing young talent to have a chance. I would go back in a heartbeat!’  Adam Jeffries, Pure FM

‘My day with the Smooth East Midlands team was not only really enjoyable, but incredibly informative and useful too. I immediately felt part of the team even though I was only there for the day and was able to spend time with all aspects of the station, including writing a script for radio advertising which was trickier than I thought it was going to be! It was great to sit in on both the breakfast and drive time shows too and I left feeling really confident that the radio industry was exactly where I wanted to be!’  Jess Lloyd, Fly FM

“I had a brilliant day at Capital South Wales, where I was able to shadow the breakfast presenters and programmer. This gave me an insight into the fast paced environment of producing and presenting a show on a commercial radio station. I was also given the opportunity to find out more about the marketing side, allowing me to explore a new side of radio and business to me. The Next Generation programme was very useful and I would recommend it to anyone interested in radio.” Jakub Szweda, Scratch Radio

So, how you get your hands on this opportunity?! Easy…

Just email the Communicorp UK team at, with ‘SRA opportunity’ in the subject line and tell them what your dream job in radio would be and why you think you would benefit from this opportunity. Remember to include which student radio you are part of and your preferred Communicorp UK station and they will get back to you to arrange a time for you to visit them; Voila!”
