Hello and welcome along to our biggest and best SRA Playlist Meeting yet. I’m really happy to say that we’ve had 26 stations get involved with our latest playlist meeting, meaning I bring you views around the truly biggest records in student radio. Each station has told us if they’re playing the following records on their playlists or shows, and what they think of them!

Fleet Foxes – Third of May

Played On: 20/26

“On the B list this week. Really excited for the new album. In my opinion this song isn’t shattering any boundaries for Fleet Foxes, but it is powerful when you really listen to it. I’m hoping the rest of the album builds on this sound and takes it further.” – Kate Giff (Xpression FM)

“This is definitely one that will appear on our playlists! I’m certain that there would be riots in the station if it didn’t get added – Fleet Foxes are remarkable, the way the vocals weave in and out of the almost psychedelic soundscapes driven by the guitars and subtle strings. This track may yet make our song of the week in future.” – Tayla Dickinson (KUBE Radio)

Startgate ft Sia & Pink – Waterfall

Played On: 21/26

“A collab with Sia & Pink!?? Yes please, two powerful voices that make this record a guaranteed chart topper!” – Tom Hinckley (Shock Radio)

“YES – How can you say a no to a track featuring P!nk and Sia?!” – Mark Hoskin (Smoke Radio)

Skott – Glitter & Gloss

Played On: 20/26

“Yes, we’ll be playlisting this track. Really unique style! Love the mix of harsh and light electronic beats and the harmonies are really nicely put together, complementing the instrumentals. Lots of Florence + The Machine/Lorde vibes coming from this; looking forward to hearing more, this artist has a lot of potential!” – Lydia Flavell (Fly FM)

“what a crazy music video! I didnt think I’d like this song at first but its grown on me. I would include it in our Blist daytime playlist” – Connor Morrin (Nerve)

Sundara Karma – Happy Family

Played On: 23/26

“Big fans of Sundara Karma at URN! Have been waiting for another release to put them back on playlist! Love how it starts and where it goes- love their vocals and what they do with their sound!” – Katie Willmott (URN)

“YES! – Sundara Karma are one of those bands who will only get better and better, and ‘Happy Family’ show just that. From the first time I saw them last year, their sound has developed, and this single is going to be another hit.” – Isobel Sheeran (Insanity Radio)

Alt-J – 3WW

Played On: 22/26

“YES. Brilliant return for alt-j, twanging guitars and building a mood is what Joe & co. do best. Great featuring vocals from Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell and a track that I’m imagining will get a lot of play on our station. Straight onto our A list!” – Alex Walker (Forge Radio)

“Love this new Alt-J song. It’s gone straight onto our B-List and has been played numerous time by members already.” – Connor Gani (Livewire)

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes – Vampires

Played On: 16/26

“Yes – got this on our B list and it’s nice to have something a bit heavier on there. Think there’s a really solid sound here, and Frank has done a good job with a catchy chorus. Just waiting to see if it can hold its own amongst the young alt-rockers around at the minute.” – Kate Giff (Xpression FM)

“YES – Not too heavy for the playlist, and a great way to get some rock into the daytime!” – Mark Hoskin (Smoke Radio)

Catfish & The Bottlemen – Oxygen

Played On: 22/26

“LOVE Catfish, love this song- already on our B list! So excited to see them get huge this year so we will always been supporting as long as I’m here!” – Katie Willmott (URN)

The XX – Say Something Loving

Played On: 26/26

Future Islands – Ran

Played On: 18/26

“Yes – I LOVE this song. Haven’t put it on the B list yet but probably will just before impact date. Have played a few times on my own show, so suppose that’s a few spot plays, just not station-wide. Really excited for more Future Islands soon. Vocal sounds great on this, and I love the striving beat. If I ever did any exercise I would probably do it to this.” – Kate Giff (Xpression FM)

“Future Islands seem like they are prepared to make it big in 2017 with this track! C LIST” – Tom Hinckley (Shock Radio)

The Big Moon – Sucker

Played On: 22/26

“Love this band. Station & I have been following for a while now” – Jack Allcock (CSRfm)

James TW – Ex

Played On: 12/26

“YES – Nice to have a track where you can focus on the vocals without sounding too slow, great for our sound.” – Mark Hoskin (Smoke Radio)

“Yes, we’ll playlist this. Really nice fresh feeling to this track! Sounds like an alternative version of Olly Murs – nice mid-tempo track to work with our high-tempo tracks. Nice, laid-back instrumentals and the lyrics complement them nicely.” – Lydia Flavell (Fly FM)

Calvin Harris ft Frank Ocean & Migos – Slide

Played On: 24/26
