The festival is taking over the UK at the end of the month, paying visits to Birmingham, Hertfordshire and Leeds.
Still struggling to decide who to see? Yet to buy your ticket? Here are the acts we have our eye on AND some of our favourite tracks from them:
Enter Shikari – Sorry You’re Not A Winner
Probably THE main event of the day! The boys from St Albans are on their European tour at the moment celebrating 10 years since the release of their legendary album ‘Take To The Skies’ and Slam Dunk will be their final stop. Headlining the day, expect their greatest hits like ‘Sorry You’re Not A Winner’, ‘Mothership’ and ‘Anything Can Happen In The Next Half Hour’ to be transformed into festival anthems at the Main Stage to get the crowds jumping.
Don Broco – What You Do To Me
Having only released their debut album 5 years ago, the Broco boys are well on their way to becoming rock legends as they warm up for Shikari. With a fine mixture of post-hardcore, pop and alternative rock vibes in their tracks, expect the crowd to go wild as they sing along to some of the catchiest lyrics around!
Deaf Havana – Trigger
With a career spanning over 12 years, Deaf Havana are set to make a legendary performance as one of the bands closing this year’s festival. Although their more down-tempo tracks like ‘Trigger’ from their latest record titled ‘All These Countless Nights’ are expected to be played, listen out for their classics such as ‘Friends Like These’ if you want to explore their darker side.
Beartooth – In Between
If you’re looking for something a bit heavier, look no further than this band! Their mixture of hardcore punk and metal with a sprinkle of electronic elements are sure to be crowd-pleasers. With a mixture of passionate and scream-style vocals from front-man Caleb Shomo, expect an energetic and exhilarating performance.
Bowling For Soup – 1985
Moving over to the FireBall Stage, the legendary Bowling For Soup are sure to perform some of their classics as they close the stage. You’ll be transported back to your punk roots with some old school songs from their 23-year career – like ‘High School Never Ends’, ‘1985’ and their rendition of Fountains of Wayne’s ‘Stacy’s Mom’ will be played without question. If pure pop-punk is more your style, this is one you can’t afford to miss – you never know when they’ll come back around!
Less Than Jake – Welcome To My Life
The legendary Less Than Jake are travelling across the pond to provide a more chilled session amongst the heavier bands performing across the weekend. With a career dating back to 1992, their combination of ska and punk is sure to be a winning combination for the crowds to sing along to.
Neck Deep – Can’t Kick Up The Roots
Headlining the Monster Energy Stage, the lads from Wales are sure to cause a fuss. Having created their own pop-punk style under some legendary influences, their riffs and vocals will no doubt be crowd-pleasers. Also, rumour has it that the band have some new material coming out – will they give them a spin?
We The Kings – Check Yes Juliet
Staying on the Monster Energy Stage, WTK return to the UK after six years. The guys from Florida will be playing the best mixture of punk rock and reggae tracks the festival may have ever heard! Be prepared for lots of sing-alongs ranging across their 12-year discography; ‘Skyway Avenue’ is another banger which is sure to be a blast from the past.
Cute Is What We Aim For – Practice Makes Perfect
The pop-punk veterans are also making the journey from the US and are sure to make a statement. Known for their energetic performances and outstanding stage presence, these guys are sure to be festival favourites; not forgetting their catchy lyrics and pure pop-punk instrumentals, of course.
The Maine – Black Butterflies And Déjà Vu
Arguably one of the most exciting band to come out of alternative rock, The Maine will be taking a break from their world tour to play the festival. Expect to hear some blasts from the past like ‘Ugly On The Inside’ as well as this one from their brand new album ‘Lovely Little Lonely’ which was released last month.
Tonight Alive – The Fire
All the way from Australia and headlining The Key Club stage is a personal favourite of mine – if you like Paramore, then this is for you! Jenna McDougall’s mind-blowing vocals (and dance moves!), mixed with their pure rock style is not a performance you want to miss. Any Spiderman movie fans will recognise ‘The Edge’, but their latest release ‘World Away’ will certainly be a highlight of their set.
Set It Off – Uncontainable
Another band from the Sunshine State, Set It Off will provide a slightly different style of punk-pop to the festival. Their fusion of rock and orchestral instruments makes some interesting listening, so it’s certainly not one to be missed! It’s also worth sticking around for them if their Jason Derulo cover is on the set-list; prepare to be rocking out and rolling about laughing at the same time!
Blackfoxxes – Husk
Blackfoxxes will be kicking off their festival season at Slam Dunk! With their melancholic lyrics and haunting melodies, these guys will be bringing something a bit darker to The Key Club Stage. After fantastic performances opening up for Nothing But Thieves on tour last year, they’re definitely ones to watch.
Against me! – White People For Peace
These guys will be bringing some classic rock vibes to this punk-heavy festival. Listen out for classics like this one and ‘Thrash Unreal’, as well as the more stripped back, acoustic numbers like ‘Baby, I’m An Anarchist!’. Their passionate vocals and catchy riffs are sure to make their headline performance on the Signature Brew Stage one to remember.
Sorority Noise – Leave The Fan On
If indie-rock is more your style, then you’ll be a fan of this band. The haunting vocals, mixed with some of the cleanest reverbs around will make for a more chilled out performance. Check out this track as well as others from their latest album ‘You’re Not As _______ As You Think’, which will no doubt be on their set-list.
Memphis May Fire – Sever The Ties
These guys will be headlining the Impericon Stage in all their metal-core glory! Their passionate scream-style lyrics and fusion of synth and heavy metal guitar is sure to be a highlight of the festival. Your feet won’t be on the floor for this one!
Counterfeit – Close To Your Chest
Star of Twilight and Sweeny Todd Jamie Campbell-Bower fronts this punk-rock band from London. His captivating vocals will surely have any teenage girl swoon, but the band are certainly a force to be reckoned with. If the set-list includes tracks from their latest release ‘Together We Are Stronger’, this is set to be a performance to remember.
Madina Lake – Here I Stand
This band is one which will make a statement – having created a fictional town which their music is based on, expect some mysterious musical numbers. Expect some politically-fuelled yet catchy lyrics and some hard-core guitar riffs. This will be an interesting one for sure.
I Prevail – Stuck In Your Head
Best known for their viral cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’, these guys are bringing yet more metal-core to this festival. With a mixture of clean and…not so clean vocals, expect heavy guitar, catchy lyrics and to lose to your voice! Some of their best known songs like ‘Scars’ and ‘Come And Get It’ are sure to be on the set-list.
Vukovi – And He Lost His Mind
Having had a very successful 2016, this Scottish band are the first to ever open the Rocksound Breakout Stage! With clever lyrics and a fusion of alternative-rock and pop, this is an act to look out for in the future. Listen out for this track, as well as others from their debut, self-titled album such as ‘La Di Da’ and ‘Bouncy Castle’.
All that and not forgetting the before and after parties with some of the best party anthems under the alternative-rock bracket!
Whether it’s hard-core metal, alternative rock or you’re looking for some fresh new bands to add to your playlists, the answer is obvious – Slam Dunk has got you covered!
