From singing in pubs at the age of nine to releasing his debut EP, Bloom, in October, 21-year-old Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi has come bounding into the UK music scene. The atmospherically dark but soft piano tacks are perfect for escapism but it’s Capaldi’s dominating voice that takes centre stage on the powerful choruses. While this has drawn comparisons to George Ezra and Tom Grennan; Capaldi manages to give a greater sense of authenticity to his strong voice. This makes Bloom such an impressive start and a sign of great things to come.
The song-writing only goes to complement this with sing-along choruses thrusted with emotion, see starting track Fade for a stellar example. Capaldi’s work is a mixture of distinct vocals and memorable lyrics that have become a mainstay on Demon FM. The future looks bright for him and I can’t wait to hear more.
