If there is one word that can describe Sam Fender’s music it would be distinctive. Unlike most other 21 year old artists, his songs do not revolve around the subject of love, instead they discuss topics such as sexual harassment, fake news and government surveillance. It is his powerful and hard hitting lyrics which are embedded within his promising indie style tunes that really give him a unique sound.
Despite only releasing a handful of singles in 2017, his debut album is highly anticipated. His most recent one to drop, ‘Start Again’ has prominent lyrics touching on unsettling state that 2017 has left us in politically and socially. This, coupled with its all over catchiness makes it my favourite release so far. Given that he has already toured with the likes of Catfish an the Bottlemen, Hozier and Declan McKeena in 2017, he has built up a steady fan base both in the UK and around Europe. With all of this, it is clear that this Geordie lad will be one to watch in 2018.
