BBC searches for new podcasting talent with The Rachel Bland New Podcast Award

The BBC is launching a UK wide search to find the next new, passionate and distinctive voices in podcasting.

This amazing award is being launched in honour of Rachel Bland, who was an incredible woman, journalist and pioneer! She created an award winning podcast, challenged taboos and bringing people in her community together….

She was a BBC Radio 5 Live newsreader and presenter who sadly passed away in September 2018 from breast cancer. Rachael was the creator of You, Me and The Big C, the award-winning podcast she presented with Lauren Mahon and Deborah James and has won praise for tackling the subject of cancer in an original and unsentimental way. Monday 21 January would have been Rachael’s 41stbirthday.

And now, in her name, the BBC are inviting you to become part of their podcast family and asking what you want to get Britain talking about, with the Rachel Bland New Podcast Award.

Entries are open to anyone who is a UK resident and does not already make a living through broadcasting. They must be knowledgeable and passionate about a subject, with a fun and distinctive tone that will bring people together.

You can enter now at and if they love your idea then BBC 5 live will produce a pilot series and showcase your podcast on the BBC Sounds app.

Rachel changed the conversation… Could you do the same?

Entries close on Monday 11 February.
