With UK R&B gaining new fans rapidly, there are many new artists on the rise. One of the most promising ones is Hamzaa, a 20-year old singer-songwriter from East London.
Listening to her music, one can see how musically and emotionally wise she is beyond her years. Her soulful vocals combined with profound, yet simple lyrics secure her a place at the SRA Class of 2020!
Hamzaa had a very creative upbringing, growing up listening to artists such as Artetha, Beyoncé, John Legend and Dolly Parton, and becoming involved in directing plays, writing songs and taking part in singing competitions. She started writing songs and playing the piano around the age of nine as a form of self-expression.
As a 20-year-old woman, I personally find myself resonating with and finding comfort in her music, and I am sure that I am not the only one that feels that way. Hamzaa is the perfect example of prominent young talent that Student Radio should be supporting.
Already stacking millions of streams on her singles “Sunday Morning” and “London” on Spotify and Apple Music, Hamzaa has had an amazing year. From playing at Glastonbury’s Silver Hayes and selling out her London headline show in Scala, to appearing on VEVO’s DSCVR currently supporting SRA Class of 2019 alumna Mahalia on her tour across the UK.
