Conference Splat

Each year the conference is hosted by a different member station, at a different university, in a different part of the UK.  In recent years, the event has visited Bradford, Southampton, Nottingham, Hertfordshire, Leeds and Bath, with the attendance of student broadcasters growing year-on-year.

The National Student Radio Conference 2014 was hosted by NSR in Newcastle from Monday 7th April to Wednesday 9th April.

NSR broadcasts across two campus’ in the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne providing a completely student led station that entertains both Newcastle and Northumbria University. With presenters from both sides of the city’s Universities, the station provides live shows from 9am to midnight, seven days a week from Newcastle’s recently refurbished Student’s Union.

From starting in a broom cupboard full of books, NSR is a growing presence on campus with strong links with societies and key Union events including Freshers’ Week and Raising and Giving Week (RAG). Being part of the Union’s media team, NSR works hand in hand with ‘The Courier’, our twice-winning Guardian Student Newspaper of the Year, as well as homegrown television station ‘TCTV’. With the SRA Conference landing in Newcastle this year, NSR hopes to become an even bigger name off campus, just as it is on campus.

An ‘Outstanding Contribution to Student Radio’ at the I Love Student Radio Awards in 2012 was just the beginning. NSR hopes to provide a memorable SRA Conference in a city that boasts a thriving night-life and a huge student body. With more and more students becoming involved every term, NSR continues to grow and they are extremely excited to welcome all of your stations to theirs. Newcastle is pretty far north, but they’re hoping the snow will have thawed by April!
