About Hive Radio

Student radio at Manchester Metropolitan University had existed previously as Storm FM (the fabled Uni of Manchester, Salford and MMU joint venture) and MMU Radio. When a new group took over the helm in the summer of 2012 they took on the task of rejuvenating student radio at the University. In September of that year MMU Radio was reformed and rebranded as Hive Radio Manchester. Broadcasting in a city with countless competitors it was important for the station to have a clear purpose and strong direction. Shaped by its students and listeners, Hive Radio proceeded to further lean towards the alternative side of the musical spectrum; proudly delivering a diverse range of unique music and entertainment based programming. With a completely fresh group of students MMU saw its first full live broadcast on 28th November 2012 and has continued to flourish ever since. The station furthermore developed a successful music blog and started to put on live music events in the city. It has been an exciting year for the station and we're sure 2013 and beyond will be even better! PS. Our first song was 'King Bee' by The Rolling Stones' in case you were wondering. We know that's an important part of this bit. :)
